64 - Tusky Valley Stops Garaway 56-53 (1-11-64)




ZOARVILLE - Tuscarawas Valley (5-6) improved their record here Saturday night with a nod over Garaway (6-5), the 2nd time this season the Trojans have beaten the Pirates.  Tuscarawas Valley won  a 49-43 verdict in its opening  game.  The Glenn Snyder-coached Pirates battled back all the way, but trailed 16-8, 29-19 and 44-37 at the quarter rests.  Actually, the game was decided at the foul lines where the Ken Gold-coached Trojans sank 18 of 29, while the Pirates were swishing 15 of 27.  In action  shots, Tuscarawas Valley was 19 for 52 and Garaway 19 of 62.  The pirates controlled the boards,  plucking off 49 rebounds to 24 for the Trojans.  Dan Andreas, who held 6-5 Trojan Gary Ferren to 8 points, led the way with 16.  Don Deetz hauled  in 11.  Garaway made just 17 percent of its action shots in the 1st frame as Tuscarawas Valley's defense was harassing.  Ron Wolfe hit his season high of 16 points to take scoring honors for Tuscarawas Valley and share game laurels with Andreas.  Dave Widder and Paul Shipbaugh both sank 10 markers.  Jim Young potted 11 to back up Andreas.  No score was reported, but the Tuscarawas Valley Reserves (2-7) were the winners over the Garaway Reserves (3-7).
