TUSCARAWAS - One field goal was all that separated the Dick Ronald-coached Broncos (0-1) (0-3) and the Glenn Snyder-bossed Pirates (1-1) (3-2). Snapping back from a loss to Stone Creek last week, Garaway sank 24 of 76 action shots for 32 percent and made 13 of 30 foul tries. Tuscarawas hit on 23 of 71 from the floor, also 32 percent and canned 13 of 26 charities. The Broncos made a gallant comback to go ahead 54-52 with just 32 seconds remaining in regulation time. Down 20-10 at the first stop, 35-27 at intermission and 45-40 after 3 periods, Tuscarawas saw its hopes for a victory dimmed when Pirate Don Deetz sank a field goal after a teammate had pulled down a rebound from an erratic Bronco shot. The Broncos went ahead in the overtime, but the Pirates knotted the count and then "cashed in" from the foul line. Sophomore Dave Paisely, up from the Reserves, kept the Broncos in the game in the final frame, getting all 7 of his points in that stanza. Game scoring honors went to Deetz, Don Richardson added 11 and Randy Miller 10. Phil Caldwell was high for the Broncos with 13. Jeff Maxwell and Roger Knisely both added 10. In rebounds, Garaway had 47 and Tuscarawas 41. Randy Miller pulled down 8 and Maxwell 13. Tusky again played without the services of All-League choice Russ McGlothlin who has pneumonia. The unbeaten Tuscarawas Reserves (3-0) pounded the Garaway Reserves (1-3) 36-25.
