WEST LAFAYETTE - A desperation "butcher" press paid dividends for West Lafayette (6-2) here Saturday night as it beat Midvale (9-2) in a see-saw battle.  Behind 46-42 at intermission  after a 20-20 first quarter, the Pete Hilliard-coached Blue Devils battled back to go in front 68-51 going into the "nightmarish" final frame.  Midvale actually held a 12-point margin with 4 minutes left when the  Generals began their "move."  Despite having 3 men saddled with 4 personal fouls, West Lafayette used rough antics on the press and kept Mivale from working the ball up court.  Few personals were called.  Both teams shot well, Midvale making 32 of 69 field goals and 11 of 17 fouls and West Lafayette sinking 33 of 65 and 18 of 22.  Unstoppable Dean DeMattio led the Midvale try with 30 points, putting his total at 270.  He has tallied more than 30 points in 4 games.  McCrea led the Generals with 29 points.  Don Shivers had 20, Jeff Hostetler 14 and Roger Warner 13.  The West Lafayette Reserves beat the Midvale Reserves (4-4), but the score was not reported.
