64 - Garaway Whips Gnaden 63-56 (12-14-63)

SUGARCREEK - Garaway High's Pirates (4-2) continued on the winning path here Saturday night by virtue of a nod over Gnadenhutten's Indians (2-4).  Both teams were about even in shooting, Garaway making 23 of 70 action shots for 33 percent and sinking 17 of 29 free tosses and Gnadenhutten meshing 19 of 60 from the floor for 31 percent and popping in 18 of 27 charities.  The game was close most of the way with the Indians on top 17-16 at the 1st stop and the Pirates ahead 33-27 at the half and 50-41 after 3 periods.  Garaway tried to pull away in the 3rd period, but Gnadenhutten cut the deficit to 3 points in the fourth.  The Glenn Snyder-coached Pirates used an effective press which resulted in several Indian turnovers in the waning minutes.  "It was a fine team effort," Snyder said.  Balance was the forte of the Pirates as 4 players hit double figures.  Randy Miller led the way with 20 points.  Don Deetz had 15, Bill Richardson 14 and John Spear 10.  Gene Bates paced the Indians with 21 markers although he fouled out midway in the final frame.  Bruce Kohl had 11.  He also was hampered by personal foul trouble.  In the Reserve game, the Gnadenhutten Reserves (3-0) nipped the Garaway Reserves (1-4) 42-40.
