64 - Stone Creek Wins Again 44-38 Against Central Christian (11-26-63)




STONE CREEK - The Charles Huggins-coached Stone Creek Panthers (2-0) copped their 2nd win of the 1963-64 basketball season here Tuesday night as Central Christian of Kidron (Wayne County) fell.  The current edition of the Panthers thus become the first Stone Creek quintet to win 2 straight to open a camplaign since the 1958-59 club.  The Hugginsmen took a 14-11 lead at the 1st stop and held on to a 23-22 margin at intermission.  They hiked their advantage to 33-28 after 3 periods, but had to halt a late rally to emerge victorious.  The visitors cut the margin to 3 points, 41-38, with 2 minutes  to play, but Jim Wherley canned 3 fouls to ice the verdict.  Panther John Flinner took game scoring honors with 19 points.  Vic Turner added 13.  Charlie Miller paced the losers with 15, LeRoy Gerber canned 10.  The Panthers hit on 19 of 47 action shots for 40.4 percent and made 6 of 12 free throws.  The visitors meshed 18 of 44 from the floor for 40.9 percent and sank 2 of 6 charity tosses.  Stone Creek led in rebounds with Verle Endlich doing most of the work.  Tom Baab popped in 23 points to lead the Panther Reserves(2-0) to a 38-36 decision against the Central Christian Reserves.
