64 - Garaway Trips Up Dennison 61-59 (1-18-64)




SUGARCREEK - Garaway's Pirates (8-5) followed up Friday's impressive victory over previously and state-ranked Strasburg (11-1) with a come-from-behind decision over Dennison (6-5) here Saturday night.  The Pirates led 17-15 at the first stop, but fell behind 29-24 at the half and battled to a 46-42 margin after 3 periods.  The 2 teams fought back and forth all the way, with the biggest lead of the night belonging to Garaway in the final frame when it led by 7.  "It was a very rough and good weekend," Pirate Coach Glenn Snyder said after the hard-fought tussle.  Don Deetz paced the Pirates with 20 points.  Jim Young, only a sophomore, got 17 and Tim Stevanus 12.  Dennison was led by Nick Cummings and Frank Golec who got 14 each.  Greg Goodrich had 13 and Fred Leece 11.  Garaway sophomore Dan Andreas, although getting just 3 points, proved his value under the boards as he plucked in 17 rebounds to top both clubs.  Cummings hauled down 16.  The Pirates fired in 23 of 55 action shots for a good 42 percent and were 15 of 23 from the foul stripes.  The Railroaders of Coach Tom Conner  hit on 25 of 73 and 9 of 13 respectively.  The Garaway Reserves (4-7) also rocked the Dennison Reserves 35-29.
