64 - Tusky Edges Gnaden 50-47 (1-7-64)

GNADENHUTTEN - Few can blame Gnadenhutten High basketball Coach Oren Thompson if he is in a "foul" mood these days. The Indians (2-9) hooked up with neighboring Tuscarawas (5-4) in a non-league tussle here Tuesday night and lost a decision; although, outgoaling the Dick Ronald-coached Broncos by 6. Gnadenhutten flicked in 20 of 54 action shots for a respectable 37 percent, but made just 7 of 14 free tosses. Tuscarawas; although, sinking only 14 of 44 from the floor for 32 percent, swished 22 of 32 charities. It was a nip-and-tuck battle, as neither team culd muster more than a 5-point advantage. The Indians held that margin at one point in the 2nd stanza, but was forced to settle for a 23-23 deadlock at the half after trailing 12-9 at the 1st stop. Tuscarawas was in front by 5 at the end of the 3rd period, 42-37. The Broncos outrebounded the Indians 29 to 25, with Roger Knisely pulling down 11. Bill Kohl, a freshman, hauled in 7 for the Tribe. Gnadenhutten held high-scoring Phil Caldwell to but 4 markers, but Russ Ashkettle took up the slack with 17. Knisely ended with 11. Bruce Kohl tossed in 16 and Larry Rentsch had 10 for Gnadenhutten. The Broncos played without the services of Jeff Maxwell because of the flu which also weakened Caldwell. The Tuscarawas Reserves (8-1) rolled on with a 50-42 win over the Gnadenhutten Reserves (4-4).
