STRASBURG - A "full house" was treated to quite a show here Saturday night as unbeaten Strasburg (9-0) tangled with tough Dennison (6-3). When the smoke had cleared the Tigers of Coach Bob Shahan had recorded another victory in their ledger. The team battle was nearly overshadowed by a tremendous individual contest between Tiger John Peters and Railroader Fred Lecce. Peters, averaging 23 points per game and Lecce, hitting at a 15.1 clip, both ended with 32 as they staged one of the best 2-man duels in memory. The main chapter of the story was written in the 3rd period as the Tigers raced from a 32-30 halftime advantage to a whopping 60-45 margin going into the final frame. Dennison made a gallant comeback late in the 4th quarter as it put up a full-court press and cut the huge Strasburg lead. Actually, the game was won at the foul lines where Strasburg swished 14 of 20, while Denison was making just 8 of 16. In field goals, the Tigers canned 33 of 63 for a torrid 56 percent and the Railroaders hit on 33 of 78 for a good 43 percent. Strasburg blisterd the nets for 73 percent of its floor shots in the 2nd half. Late in the final frame the Tigers went from a 2-point lead to the final 6 as Peters twice stole the ball and went all the way in for buckets. The Tigers used a zone defense in the 1st half, but switched to a man-to-man in the second. Dennison led in rebounds, 39 to 24, with Nick Cummings pulling down 13 and Jim Povick 9. Rock Van Fossen grabbed 8 and Don Wallick 7 for Strasburg which played its 2nd game in succession without 6-3 Rick Hall who had a sore foot. The Strasburg Tigers (8-1) trounced the Dennison Reserves 57-27.
