64 - Hiland Tops Garaway 67-57 (12-21-63)




BERLIN - Hiland High captured an important victory here Saturday night, topping rival Garaway High of Sugarcreek.  Garaway (4-3) took a 15-14 margin at the close of the 1st period, but Hiland (5-1) moved out to a 35-27 halftime advantage and then doubled it lead to a 51-35 count at the end of the 3rd quarter.  Ron Miller, Ted Miller and Norman Feller were in double figures for the Hawks, bagging 15, 14 and 12 points, respectively.  Feller was a demon on the boards,  pulling down 16 rebounds as Hiland led 41-20 in that department.  Don Deetz fired in 19 points for Garaway, while Bill Richardson contributed 11.  Hiland meshed 26 of 63 action shots for 41 percent and 15 of 24 at the foul line.  Garaway hit 19 of 49 from the field for 30 percent and 19 of 29 at the charity stripe.  The Hiland Reserves beat the Garaway Reserves (1-5) 32-26.
