64 - Lakeland 's Fast Start Dooms Gnaden 82-61 (1-4-64)




GNADENHUTTEN - An unbelievable 81 percent 1st quarter shooting mark by Lakeland led it to victory No. 10 here Saturday night as outclassed Gnadenhutten (2-8) fell.  The Indians must have thought they were Custer at his last stand as the Raiders of Harrison County took a 24-0 lead before Freshman Bill Kohl connected on a pair of jumpers from the key with 1 minute left.  Many of Lakeland's shots were "easy" ones as it used a fast break to near perfection.  Fred Simpson paced the victory with 22 points.  Ray Ferrell added 20, Doug Mallernee got 19 and Jack Hamilton tossed in 14.  Bruce Kohl led the Indians with 17 markers.  Bill Kohl added 14 and Gene Bates got 13.  Lakeland ended with 35 field goals in 75 tries for 47 percent and made 12 of 17 charities.  Gnadenhutten canned 25 of 62 for 40 percent and 11 of 16.  The Raiders took in 44 rebounds to 34 for the Indians.  The Kohl cousins grabbed 12 each.  The Gnadenhutten Reserves (4-3) got over the .500 mark with a 44-37 canning of the Lakeland Reserves.
