64 - Midvale Stops Garaway's Momentum 76-65 (1-31-64)

MIDVALE - The one-two punch of Dean DeMattio and Dan Kohler again was the story as far as Midvale (6-1) (13-3) was concerned. The duo accounted for 59 points, DeMattio getting 34 for game laurels. Garaway (5-2) (10-6) tried ever-so-much in an effort to turn the tide, using a zone press at times and on occasions a press. Midvale employed a zone. The Blue Devils led 21-16, 30-29 and 53-45 at the quarter halts. Midvale fired through 24 of 51 action shots for a hot 47 percent and was 28 of 45 in charities. Garaway connected on 21 of 52 floor shots and sank 23 of 32 foul tries. DeMattio also was the battle's top rebounder, hauling in 13. Kohler got 10. Jim Young paced the Pirates in scoring with 18 markers. Bill Richardson added 16. High-scoring Don Deetz was limited to 9. Dan Andreas led in rebounds with 12. The Pirates are losers for the 1st time since January 11. The Garaway Reserves (5-9) won the 1st game of the night against the Midvale Reserves (7-6) 50-44.
