STRASBURG - Fans are seeing what they expected of the Strasburg High Tigers (3-0). Coach Bob Shahan, in his 1st year as head man, greeted 4 regulars from last season's quintet which won 20 games and lost but 5. The latest conquest came here Saturday night as the Tigers clawed the high-flying Hiland Hawks (3-1). Strasburg, fresh from a school record-breaking 122-45 win over Baltic Friday, now has tallied 276 points. The tenacious Tigers leaped out to a 10-0 lead and never trailed. The Hawks moved to within 6 points early in the 4th quarter, but a sagging man-to-man Tiger defense proved costly to the visitors. The Tigers canned 32 of 64 action shots for 50 percent and made 24 of 35 fouls. The Hawks connected on 27 of 81 from the floor for 33 percent and swished 16 of 27 charity tosses. "I'm real happy with the team effort," Shahan said. "It was a real solid game. The boys worked smoothly and had just 7 turnovers. We'll have to concentrate on our defense." Rock Van Fossen paced the Tiger attack with 28 markers and got able support from John Peters who got 21, Don Wallick with 17 and Vic Gessner who canned 12. Ron Miller was high for the Art Schrock-coached Hawks with 16. John Hostetler added 14 and Ted Miller 11. The Hiland Reserves handed the Strasburg Reserves (2-1) their 1st lost of the year, 55-50.
