64 - Down The Line With Dan Kopp

DOVER - CHARLES HUGGINS must have a secret food he is feeding to his Stone Creek Panthers basketball players.  The first-year cage coach faced a rebuilding year, or so we thought, as most of the 1962-63 squad was lost via graduation.  But, the Panthers have been surprising to date and have racked up 3 wins in 4 outings.  This is the best start for a Panther quintet since the 1958-59 aggregation won its initial 3.  The 1957-58 team also won 3 in a row to open the season.  Stone Creek's John Flinner currently is the top scorer in Tuscarawas County with 72 points.  He has hit for 32 field goals and 8 free throws.  A year ago Flinner's total output was 56 markers.  At this early date, already 6 teams have tasted defeat...Stone Creek, Baltic, Midvale, Gnadenhutten, Port Washington, and Tuscarawas.  Following is a brief rundown on teams and players with at least 2 games under their belts:

John Flinner, Stone Creek 4 32-8-72
Ken Gay, Port Washington 3 19-17-55
Don Deetz, Garaway Pirates 2 17-5-39
Ron Maurer, Baltic Eagles 3 11-7-29
Bruce Kohl, Gnadenhutten Indians 2 8-4-20
Larry Rentsch, Gnadenhutten Indians 2 9-2-20
