64 - Strasburg Subdues Millersburg 79-66 (12-13-63)

MILLERSBURG - The Strasburg High Tigers (4-0) ran into a fired-up band of Millersburg Trojans here Friday night and had to go to the hilt before tucking away a hard-earned win.  The Tigers, who have set their sights high this season and had won 3 in a row going into the skirmish, jumped out to an 18-12 lead at the first stop, but fell behind 37-36 at the half and had to pull out all the stops to take a 58-54 margin into the final frame.  Strasburg was far ahead in field goals, sinking 35 of 76 for 47 percent, while Millersburg was making 25 of 61 for 42 percent.  But, the Spartans kept close by cashing in at the charity lines.  They made 16 of 25, while the Tigers meshed 9 of 15.  Tiger John Peters, who missed half the 2nd quarter because of personal foul trouble, took game scoring honors with 22 points, with  18 coming in the final 2 quarters.  Don Wallick  added 19 to the cause and Vic Gessner 16.  coach Bob Shahan will take his Tigers to Zoarville tonight to battle the Tuscarawas Valley Trojans (2-1).  These 2 quintets had some real battles a year ago with the Tigers winning 82-54 and 59-58 (County Tournament title game) and the Trojans taking a 68-63 decision.  John Studer paced the Strasburg Reserves (3-1) to a 40-27 over the Millersburg Reserves.
