STRASBURG - Old reliable John Peters again was the big man for the unbeaten Tigers of Coach Bob Shahan (4-0) (10-0). Although it was a fine team effort with 11 Tigers playing and 4 doing the scoring, it was the All-League performer Peters who took charge to get Strasburg winging toward its 10th victory without a defeat. Leading 14-8 at the 1st stop and 31-27 at intermission, the Tigers rode a 15-point 3rd quarter by Peters to a 54-39 advantage going into the final frame. Peters, going into the game with 216 points, burned the nets for 34 to top last week's effort against Dennison by 2. He had ample support from classmmates Don Wallick with 18 and Vic Gessner with 12, Junior Rock Van Fossen also got 12. Dean DeMattio, the county's top point-maker with 270, took honors for the Pete Hilliard-coached Blue Devils (4-1) (9-3) with 29. But, he was the only Midvale cager in 2 digits. Both teams fired at the nets 74 times, with Strasburg making 34 for 46 percent and Midvale sinking 20 for 25 percent. At the free throw lines, the Tigers were 8 for 14 and the Blue Devils 20 for 25. DeMattio led both squads in board work with 14 rebounds. Van Fossen grabbed 10 and teammate Rick Hall 9. Strasburg had beaten Midvale by just 2 points earlier in the season. The Midvale Reserves (5-4) upset the undefeated Strasburg Reserves (9-1) 32-26.
