GNADENHUTTEN - Tuscarawas High (7-1) outlasted Strasburg (6-2) 6-5 here Wednesday morning in an extra inning playoff to decide the chapion of the Tuscarawas County Spring Baseball League. The Broncos' winning run came in the top of the 8th frame when a fly ball off the bat of Jerry Schupp dropped into left field. Ivan Summers carrying home the "bacon." Summers had started the inning by reaching on an error, 1 of 8 committed by the Tigers. The Broncos were guilty of 2 miscues. Both Tuscarawas and Strasburg had ended regular league play with identical 6-1 records. Jim Grant took credit for the victory, scattering 5 hits, walking but 1 and striking out 5. Dave Dayton was the victim, giving up 7 hits, issuing 12 walks and fanning 7. Coach Dick Ronald's Broncos took a 4-0 lead in the 2nd inning, plating a quartet of runs on 2 hits, 5 free passes and throwing 4 errors. Tuscarawas added another marker in the 6th inning. Pete Angelo's Tigers tallied 1 run in the second, 2 in the 5th and 1 in each the 6th and 7th. Ron Lab lashed out a Home Run in the final inning of regulation play to send the contest into overtime. Lab's blast went over the fence in left just inside the foul pole, landing 325 feet from home plate. Lab also stroked a 2-bagger as did teammate John Peters. Dayton aided his own cause with a triple. Fred Burmich and Chuck Reichman both had a double and a single for Tuscarawas.
