MIDVALE - Big "Double D" took up here Friday night right where he left off a year ago...pouring in points from all over the floor to lead his team to victory.  The performer in question is Midvale High cager Dean DeMattio.  The lanky Senior potted 531 points last season including six 30-plus jobs.  Last night he burned the cords for 36 as the Pete Hillard-coached Blue Devils (1-0) tamed the Tuscarawas Broncos (0-1).  Both teams fought all the way, with the Dick Ronald-coached Broncos holding a slim 13-12 advantage at the 1st stop and the Devils ahead 32-28 at intermission.  Going into the final period it was deadlocked 40-all.  Tuscarawas lost the services of Phil Caldwell and Jeff Maxwell in the final frame and Russ McGlothlin was added with 4 personals.  Midvale put up a tight pressing defense to waltz in front early and the visitors could not keep up.  Dick McPherson tossed in 10 points for the hosts.  Caldwell paced Tuscarawas with 19, McGlothlin had 11.  Midvale hit on 24 of 74 action shots for 32.9 percent and 17 of 21 free throws.  Tuscarawas mustered 17 of 54 for 31 percent from the floor and 17 of 26 charity flings.  The Blue Devils controlled both boards, pulling down 48 rebounds to only 27 for the Broncos.  DeMattio was the big man here also, grabbing 17.  McGlothlin gathered in 10 for the Broncos.  The Tuscarawas Reserves (1-0) eaked out a 35-33 win over the Midvale Reserves (0-1).
