64 - Down The Line With Dan Kopp

DOVER - We've been rummaging through out record books and have compiled the won-loss records of the basketball coaches in Tuscarawas County.  Of course, you already know that there are new coaches at 6 county schools:  Ken Gold at Tuscarawas Valley, Charles Huggins at Stone Creek, Bob Shahan at Strasburg, Stan Berkman at Baltic, Dick Ronald at Tuscarawas and Glenn Snyder at Garaway.  Snyder and Ronald are doing double duty as they also serve as football coaches.  Pete Hilliard of Midvale is the top winner among the "holdovers" with 155 wins against a mere 55 defeats in 9 seasons, including a sparkling 22-2 mark in 1958-59 and a 19-3 slate in 1957-58.  The only cage boss with more than 100 wins.  Oren Thompson at Gnadenhutten ended last year at 7-14.  Port Washington has won 17 and dropped 24 under Don Durham before this year.  Of note, is John Haugh of Newcomerstown who guided the Trojans to a 6-13 slate, the school's best in 7 years.
