64 - Strasburg Coach Comments On Club

STRASBURG - "The main assets of our team are attitude, desire, determination and confidence that we can win."  Bob Shahan was speaking about the Strasburg High Tiger basketball team.  Shahan is in his 1st year as Tiger tamer.  He had this to say about individual players:

Vic Gessner - A top-notch ball handler and a hustler from the word go.  He will play guard.  He has excellent defensive ability and is a good rebounder and scoring threat.  He could very easily have an outstanding year.  He is 5-10.

Don Wallick - A good shot and is noted for his ability around the boards.  With his experience and ability he could very easily be one of the county's best forwards.  He also will play center.  He is 6-2.

John Peters - Will work from a guard position, but is a threat from anywhere on the court.  Aggressiveness, ability and attitude are among his chief assets.  He also is a deadly shot and can play a tremendous defensive game.  He is 6-0.

Rock Van Fossen - Quick and tough under the boards.  His shooting has improved and he has the movements necessary to become a good all-around player.  He is 5-11.

The above 4 are lettermen.  Non-veterans include:

Fred Scherer - 6-0 guard and a very good shot.
John Thomas - 6-1 guard and has shown much improvement.
Mike Mercier - 6-4 forward/center, a transfer from Alexander, VA and may be an asset to the team.
Rick Hall - 6-3 and has shown much improvement since his work with the Reserve team last year.
Tom Dreher - 5-9 and a smooth, consistent performer and a very good shot.
Ron Lab - 5-10 and a real deliberate player with a good eye for the basket.
Don Gerber - 6-2 and a hustler with a great deal of determination and desire.
