Strasburg Cops Gnaden - Midvale Slams Baltic (5-7-63)

GNADENHUTTEN - Strasburg picked up a big win here yesterday afternoon, downing Gnadenhutten 5-1 in a Tuscarawas County High  Baseball League contest.  Dave Dayton was the hero here for Coach Pete Angelo's nine, hurling 3-hit ball in addition to driving in 4 of the Tigers' runs.  Dayton went all the way on the hill for Strasburg, walking but one batter and fanning 7.  Don Garrett was the loser, being touched for all 5 runs.  Jim Jinks hurled the final frame.  The duo gave up 7 hits, walked 5 and struck out 5.  Dayton had 3 singles in the attack.  Ron Lab had 2 singles.

MIDVALE - Sectional Champion Midvale upped its season mark and league record here Tuesday with a sparkling 15-0 rout of Baltic as Sophomore Eugene Belba hurled an abbreviated no-hitter.  Belba walked only 1 and fanned 7 as he pitched no-hit ball for 4 1/2 innings, the game called at that point.  Tim  Meltzier started and took the loss,  Dick Gerber coming on in relief.  Coach Pete Hilliard's diamondmen banged out 15 hits in the rout, led by a Bob Byers who poked 2 doubles and a single and Tom McPherson with 2 doubles.  Tom Mackey, Belba and Dean DeMattio  each collected 2 singles.
