STONE CREEK - Stone Creek's winless Panthers (0-15) came the closest to breaking a 15-game losing streak here Saturday night, but still wound up on the short end in a battle with Port Washington (8-7) in a Tuscarawas County Class "A" non-league contest. Trailing almost all the way, the Panthers rallied in the final period to come within 3 points of taking the lead. However, Port had enough steam left to thwart the bid and post its eighth win. Stone Creek outgoaled the visitors 24-23 but canned only 13 of 24 free throws. Port dumped in 15 of 28. Jim Bender led Port with 24 points, while Larry Hagan and Bill Fisher contributed 13 and 10, respectively. Larry Loren and Larry Stephon paced Coach Ernie Lukens' host crew with 20 points each. Merle Degen chipped in with 13. The sweep for the night was started off by the Port Washington Reserves (6-9) burying the Stone Creek Reserves (1-12) 65-33.
