NEWCOMERSTOWN - Coach Ted Martin had Newcomerstown (0-14) primed and ready for the invasion of Gnadenhutten (10-8) Saturday night. The Trojans came very near to pulling off a major upset and ending one of the county's longest losing streaks in history. The two combines were all tied late in the fourth period, but when it came time for Newcomerstown to match the last bucket by Gnaden time ran out. The result - a Gnadenhutten victory. The Indians had 4 men in double figures in posting their 10th win. Ron Clark led the way on 16 points. Ray Rank, who hit 14, led the Tribe on the boards with 17 important rebounds. Doyle Rann had a standout evening for Newcomerstown with 12 points and John Zeiner hit for 13 as the Trojans lost their 14th of the season and 38th straight since the 1958 season. But, the verdict pointed out the improvement of the winless Trojans who last December lost to the same combine 60-39. Gnaden won the nod at the foul line, hitting 17 of 28 for 61 percent, while the losers hit 13 of 23 chances. In the Reserve game, Newcomerstown came out on top by edging Gnadenhutten (7-11) 50-47.
