Gnadenhutten learned what 9 other teams had found out this season - Garaway High's Pirates are tough to compete with. Tribe mentor Bob Gaume praised the Pirate aggregation after it pinned the 20-point decision over his charges. "They are plenty tough and probably the best in the county". Unable to get rolling, Gnaden (3-3) (8-5) fell behind late in the opening period and trailed 14-11, 30-20 and 51-30 at the stops. The Indians took a 4-0 lead at the start, but Garaway (5-0) (10-1) rallied back and the teams took turns leading the way 4 times before the Pirates finally overtook the Tribe at the end of the stanza for keeps. A full house was on lhand for the big game. The win leaves Garaway with only undefeated Hiland holding a decision over coach Jim Stull's crew. Koran Zehnder led the visitors with 19 points, while Tom Andreas and Charles Stingel each hit 16. Ray Rank led Gnaden, which had 4 men in double figures, with 15 points, while Ron Clark, Carl Dichler and John Hall each canned 10 points. Gnaden's next start will be Tuesday as it hosts Freeport and seeks revenge for an opening season loss. In the Reserve game, Garaway (7-4) edged Gnaden (5-7) 38-36.
