60 - Baltic UPSETS Tuscarawas Valley 64-57 (2-13-60)

To many fans the Baltic victory was no surprise. In the past several weeks the Eagles (4-4) (13-7) have picked up momentum, striving for a peak they hope to reach in next week's tournament. They have now won 5 straight games since a 72-52 loss to Tuscarawas January 22. With the exception of the first period when they were behind 20-17 the Eagles led all the way over Tusky Valley (6-2) (14-4). The Trojans tried to press, but Baltic, with guards Dave Berger and Gary Mast turning in a fine job, moved through it with ease. They racked up a 35-28 lead at halftime and were on top 46-41 at the end of the third quarter. John Rice set the scoring pace with 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Larry Lautenschleger added 14 points and Berger 13. High for Tuscarawas Valley was Clarence Cantrill and Ron Lake with 14. Bruce Ickes made 13 and Jim Studer 11. The Trojan point attack was slowed down as Studer, Lake and Al Cerett all left the game via the 5-foul route. The latter had 4 personal fouls in the first half. Baltic made 19 of 48 from the field for 39 percent and Tuscarawas Valley 21 of 66 for 32 percent. In the Reserve game, TV (10-7) came down hard on Baltic (16-4) 43-31.
