Two anticipated close games scheduled to have significant bearing on the Tuscarawas County Class "A" League race was to have materialize last night, but the results caused some eye lifting.
Both Garaway and Tuscarawas Valley had unexpectedly easy times in rolling to victories of 71-51 and 69-53 over Gnadenhutten and Midvale, respectively. In the only other game having bearing on the league standings, Strasburg took a rousing 71-44 victory over Stone Creek to increase its league mark to 3-2. It is 5-7 for the season, while the Panthers, 0-5 in the league, are 0-14 overall. Baltic clipped Port Washington 63-52 in the other contest and now has a 2-3 league record and 8-8 overall. The Purple Riders have a 1-4 league mark and are 6-7 for the season. Garaway, which is now 10-1 in seasonal play, kept up its withering pace as the league leaders and now stands at 5-0. Tusky Valley, which is 3-1 in the loop and 8-1 overall, will have to look to Strasburg, Stone Creek and Tuscarawas, who face Garaway in future league tussles, for help in overhauling the fast-moving Pirates. The Trojans missed their chance earlier in the season, and face a league schedule similar to thePirates, with Stone Creek, Gnadenhutten, Tuscarawas and Baltic slated for upcoming dates. Strasburg and Midvale still must be considered in the race until mathematically eliminated. Both are now 3-2.
