GNADENHUTTEN - Down through the seasons Gnadenhutten and Freeport have been involved in numerous close basketball games. Last night was no exception. The Tribe (9-5) scored a verdict to gain revenge for a 56-50 loss to the Raiders (8-5) in the season opener. The Indians also broke a four game winning streak by the Raiders. Gnadenhutten was down 15-10 at the end of the first period, but rallied for a 28-23 halftime lead. It widened the margin to 48-37 at the end of the third period. Bob Gaume's club surged to a 15-point lead with 5:22 remaining to play, but still had to throttle a Freeport comeback. Ron Clark connected on 9 straight from the foul line to put the game on ice for the Tribe in the last few minutes. He ended the night with 18 points, 12 from the charity line. John Hall had 16, Ray Blickensderfer 13 and Carl Dichler 11. Carl Mallarnee paced Freeport with 20 points. Jim Greenwalt added 18 and Jay Rogers 16. The Freeport Reserves made it a split night by downing the Gnadenhutten Reserves (5-8) 40-37.
