Clarence Cantrill's clutch shot with 30 seconds remaining to play resulted in Tuscarawas Valley's victory over Strasburg (2-2) (4-6). The Trojans (2-1) (7-1) were behind 10 points most of the second half, but rallied midway in the final period and tied the score with 3 minutes to play. The lead seesawed before Cantrill made his shot on a drive-in layup. Strasburg's Don Grove had a foul shooting opportunity with 5 seconds to play. He was ordered by Coach Warren Binder to bounce the ball off the rim to give the tigers a field goal opportunity. He did just that, but a jump ball resulted in a scuffle for the ball and the Trojans wrapped up the victory. Strasburg again made many miscues, turning over the ball 27 times, but Binder termed it a highly improved performance. His charges dominated the boards, picking up 57 offensive and defensive rebounds. They also had a brilliant night from the field sinking 26 of 50 for 52 percent. Tusky Valley made 29 of 60 for 43 percent. The Tigers fell behind 17-14 at the outset, but rallied for 25 points in the second period for a 39-33 lead. They were ahead 52-45 at the end of third quarter action. Cantrill led all scorers with 27 points and teammate Ron Lake hit for 20. Topping the Tigers was Frank Wallick with 23 points. Dale Liggett added 14 and Bill Seese and Grove connected for 11 apiece. The TV Reserves (4-3) also won their game by turning back the Strasburg Reserves (5-5) 39-28.
