60 - Garaway's Zehnder Assumes Lead in Class "A" Scoring Race (12-24-59)

The last week has brought about some big changes in Tuscarawas County's Class "A" scoring picture as the men began to seperate from the boys. Entries in this week's top 10 scorers were limited to those who had scored 106 or more points.

Koran Zehnder, veteran Garaway forward, jumped into the leadership with 165 points, an average of 20.8 per game. He replaced Baltic's John Rice, now third with 154 markers. Moving from fourth place to the runner-up spot was Ron Breniser of Midvale. The Blue Devil veteran is right on Zehnder's heels with 163 points. The fact that Tusky's Gary Caviness is right behind Rice with 153 proves that it's still anybody's title.

There was also a new leader in the race for point laurels in the Tuscarawas County Class "A" League. John Hall of Gnadenhutten's Indians took the top spot with 71 points. He was runner-up to Rice a week ago. The latter dropped all the way to sixth place as the Eagles failed to engage any league opponents. Gary Gerber, Rice's teammate, also felt the effects of no league action. He dropped all the way out of the top 10 from last week's 3rd spot. Neil Beans of Midvale, Larry Lorenz of Stone Creek and Bob Raber of Garaway were all new members of this week's top group.
