63 - Port Washington Gets Late Rally In 51-47 Win Against Newcomerstown (12-1-62)

NEWCOMERSTOWN - A late rally spearheaded Port Washington (3-1) to a triumph over Newcomerstown here Saturday night, the Purple Riders making the most of accurate foul shooting.  Although trailing until the fading minutes and outscored by 10 points from the field, the Riders of Don Durham canned 21 of 28 free throws for their win.  Newcomerstown (0-2), gaining its first opening win in 10 years the night before at Stone Creek outgoaled the invaders 20-15, but made only 7 of 13 fouls.  Plagued by personal fouls, 28 whistled against them,  the  Trojans lost 2 starters by this route in the 3rd quarter, Tom Sieber and Paul  Grimm.  A total of 13 personals were called on the more experienced Riders.  Larry Laisure and Paul Schwab led the victors with 19 and 13 points respectively.  Dave Williams potted 13 for Coach John Haugh's crew and Dave Bidwell 10.  Newcomerstown led from the opening munutes until the final quarter uprising by Port, most of the way by 10 points.  The Port Washington Reserves (1-3) won their first game of the season by downing the Newcomerstown Reserves 39-28.
