Newcomerstown Runs Over Tuscarawas 58-40 (1-19-63)

NEWCOMERSTOWN - After a close 1st quarter, Newcomerstown (5-7) rolled into high gear to topple Tuscarawas (5-7) here Saturday night. The Broncos of Coach Aaron Miller held an 8-7 lead in the 1st period, but were outscored 21-5 in the 2nd as the host Trojans roared to a 28-13 halftime lead. The hosts maintained the tempo after the break to hold a 49-24 margin after 3 stanzas. Dave Williams and Randy Osler led John Haugh's Newcomerstown squad with 18 points each. Fred Burmich picked up 11 points and was the only Tusky player in double figures. The Trojans hit 23 of 58 from the field for 40 percent. The Broncos managed only 13 of 52 for 25 percent. Tuscarawas had been looking at a complete sweep for the night as the Tuscarawas Junior High team edged the Newcomerstown Junior High team in a high scoring game 50-45. The Reserve game followed with Tuscarawas Reserves (5-4) pinning the Newcomerstown Reserves to the floor with a 52-35 win.
