DOVER - Dean DeMattio of Midvale has taken over the top spot in the scoring derby among Tuscarawas County schoolboys. The 6-2 Junior vaulted into the top position by virtue of 44, 21, and 28 point outbursts in the Devils' last 3 games. DeMattio, who had led the county in total points, but trailed Baltic's Dick Gerber in per game average, now has 259 markers for the season, an average of 25.90 per contest. Gerber has "slipped" to 2nd with 250 points, an average of 25.00 per engagement. He was hurt by being "held" to 11 points in the finals of the Newcomerstown Holiday Tournament last week. DeMatttio also leads the point race in the Tuscarawas County League, averaging a gigantic 36.50 points per game. He has 73 markers, way above runerup Larry Rentsch of Gnadenhutten who has 49. Don Wallick and John Peters of Strasburg and Dave Widder of Tuscarawas Valley also are averaging 20 points per game in league activity.
