63 - Garaway Slays Stone Creek 78-65 (1-4-63)




SUGARCREEK - A big 2nd quarter carried Garaway (2-1) (5-4) to its win over Stone Creek (1-2) (4-7).  Coach Joe Richards' Pirates trailed 17-14 at the 1st stop, but waxed hot in the 2nd stanza to vault into a 35-24 lead at intermission.  They led 57-46 after 3 periods.  Most of the game was played at the foul stripes, as 50 personals were called, 25 against each team.  Garaway made 16 of 29.  Stone Creek hit on 29 of 42.  The Pirates canned 31 of 78 action shots for 39.7 percent.  Coach Ken Lawhun's Panthers hit on just 18 of 66 for 27.2 percent.  Garaway was led in the point department by the one-two punch of Geof Stevanus and Don Deetz who got 19 and 17 respectively.  Randy Miller got 13.  Stone Creek was topped by Cliff Endlich with 20, Verle Endlich had 15.  High-scoring Jim Billman was limited to just 2.  The Stone Creek Reserves (8-1) took down the Garaway Reserves (6-2) 39-32 in overtime.
