63 - Sandy Valley Knocks Off Tusky Valley 74-52 (1-5-63)





PHOTO:  Boys, let's get going.  Coach Robert Heller chats with lettermen Ed Crawford (left), Gary Ferren and Ken Burris as he tries to figure out a way to get this Tuscarawas Valley Trojans back on the winning track.  The Trojans, who have lost their last 4 games, now have a 4-6 mark.  Among their victories are decisions over touted Dennison (50-48), Garaway (60-59) and Gnadenhutten 91-70).  Among the losses is a 67-66 decision to rugged Midvale. (Fri 1-4-63)

ZOARVILLE - The "jumping jack rabbits" of Sandy Valley (4-1) raced to their 4th win here Saturday, handling Tuscarawas Valley (4-6) its 4th straight defeat 74-52.  Four Cardinals hit in 2 digits, led by Gary Provance with 19 points.  Ed Barnes 17, Darrell Zantenc 14 and  Bob Boyd 10.  Dave Widder topped the Trojan attack with 13.  Bob Burris  followed with 12, Paul Shipbaugh netted 11.  The Trojans lost the services of center Gary Ferren, 6-5 Junior, after 2 minutes had elapsed when he injured his hip.  He got his hand entangled in  the net and fell hard to the floor.  In the past 3 games, Ferren has been hobbled by an ankle injury.  The Sandy Valley Reserves wasted the Tuscarawas Valley Reserves (0-8) for the sweep.
