63 - Strasburg Beats Unbeaten Garaway 47-44 (12-15-62)

SUGARCREEK - Three foul shots were the difference here Saturday night as two unbeaten teams hooked up in a lossely-played contest.  In the end, Strasburg (4-0) picked up another win as Garaway (3-1) went to defeat for the first time.  The Pirates of Coach Joe Richards held 17-14 and 28-24 leads at the first 2 stops and were still in command, 39-34, at the end of the 3rd quarter.  The Tigers of Coach Warren Binder caught the Pirates at 3:55 of the final period, 38-all.  Adrian Edie then put the winners in the lead, but the Pirates came back to tie as Don Deetz sank 2 fouls.  John Peters and Edie then hit from the floor and Edie came up with a charity hit to put Strasburg ahead for good.  Sophomore Rick Van Fossen got 4 of Strasburg's 5 buckets in the 3rd period.  "I'm real proud of the way the boys came through," Binder said.  "They were noticeably tired, having played 3 games in 4 nights after a long layoff.  But they hustled all the way and were able to come back under pressure.  Garaway has a fine, hustling ball club and gave us plenty of anxious moments."  Peters led the hard-earned win, notching 15 points.  Van Fossen had 14 and Edie 12.  Deetz topped Garaway with 18.  Fred Smith had 11.  The Strasburg Reserves (3-1) also whipped the unbeaten Garaway Reserves (3-1) 42-35.
