63 - Gnaden Floors Stone Creek 72-42 (1-8-63)

STONE CREEK - A gigantic 2nd quarter carried Midvale (3-1) (9-3) to its win over Stone Creek (1-3) (4-9).  Leading only 18-10 at the 1st stop, the Blue Devils poured in 27 points in that frame to just 10 for the Panthers, hiking their margin to 45-20.  At the end of 3 periods, it was Midvale by 61-28.  It was a case of too much balance on the part of Midvale, as 3 cagers hit in the high double figures, topped by All-County candidate Dean DeMattio who had 19.  Bob Byers and Tom McPherson both had 16.  DeMattio got 18 of his points in the 1st half, before Stone Creek boxed him in the final 2 quarters.  But with DeMattio halted,  Midvale put the burden on Byers and McPherson who came through in fine  style, getting 10 points apiece in  the 2nd half.  Cliff Endlich was the only Panther in 2 digits, hitting for 10 markers.  Coach Pete Hilliard's club hit on 34 of 68 action attempts for a hot 50 percent and made 9 of 12 free throws.  Coach Ken Lawhun's aggregation connected on 15 of 30 from the floor for 41.0 percent and 10 of 18 charity tries.  The Stone Creek Reserves (10-2) nipped the Midvale Reserves (9-2) for their 2nd straight loss, after winning their first 9 straight games, 37-35.
