DOVER - One of these days we hope to have an accurate list of records for all Tuscarawas County teams and individuals. Slowly but surely we are realizing our goal. In a story on the 1962-63 Tuscarawas County All-League Team, it was pointed out that Dick Gerber of Baltic may hold both the season and career scoring records here. A check through the "morgue" revealed that isn't exactly correct. We found John Rice had tallied 1,564 points over 4 seasons, his best output being 405 in 1957-58. Gerber now has 965, with his top effort being 456 this campaign. We also came up with another record we thought would interest many fans. According to a check made on the back editions of the Daily Reporter, Strasburg won 50 straight league games and 41 in a row at home, the streaks both ending at the start of the 1957-58 season. Strasburg lost its opener 50-43 to Beach City that season at home and was upended 67-61 by Baltic in its initial league engagement of the campaign. The win by Baltic, by the way, was the 1st for an Eagle team over Strasburg in 18 years, the last one being a 30-29 decision in 1939-40.
