63 - Midvale in 67-66 Overtime Win Against Tusky Valley (12-14-62)
MIDVALE - Tom McPherson sank the first of a one-and-one situation with 6 seconds left in the overtime to give Midvale (1-0) (5-1) the victory. Midvale held a 56-50 lead with 3 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, but the visitors came back to tie the score 62-all at the end of regulation time. Midvale led 14-10 at the 1st stop, but Tusky Valley (1-2) led 35-29 at the half. The Blue Devils then rallied to take a 48-46 edge into the 4th quarter. High-scoring Dean DeMattio led the way for Midvale with his 5th straight 20-plus effort, netting 29 points. Tom Mackey chipped in 11 and Bob Byers 10. Junior Paul Shipbaugh led the Trojans with 18 points. Dave Widder had 14 and Gary Ferren and Ed Crawford 10 each. The losers were hampered by the loss of Shipbaugh. Ferren, Widder and Bob Burris on fouls. Tom Mackey fouled out for Midvale. A total of 25 personals were called on TV and 18 against Midvale. The Midvale Reserves (5-0) stomped the Tusky Valley Reserves (0-3) 65-32.
