63 - Stone Creek Falls To Warsaw 55-50 (2-1-63)

WARSAW - A gallant rally by the Stone Creek Panthers (4-14) fell short here last night as Warsaw triumphed.  Coach Ken Lawhun's charges were behind most of the way, but forged into a tie late in the game only to see a technical foul "rob" them of victory.  Behind 11-5 and 22-10 at the first 2 stops as they hit on only 14 percent of their shots, the Panthers cut the deficit to 34-25 going into the final frame and tied the score 50-all with seconds left.  Warsaw then hit both of a one-and-one situation to make the score 52-50, Stone Creek trailing.  The Panthers missed from the charity line, but stole the ball.  But, an 8-second violation was called, Warsaw getting possession.  The hosts then hit twice from the free throw line.  Stone  Creek came down the floor and an official called a technical, claiming one of the players on the bench hit him on top of the head.  The hosts made the charity and got the ball out of bounds as the game ended.  "The boys really played a fine game," Lawhun said.  "They fought hard all the way.  They refused to let Warsaw's press bother them too much.  They played together and had one of their best games of the season---except for that 1st half when the ball just wouldn't go through the hoop."  In the Reserve game, Stone Creek (13-3) just edged out Warsaw 43-40.
