63 - Hiland Hands Strasburg Another Loss 72-67 (2-9-63)

BERLIN - A sellout crowd (many fans were turned away) saw Hiland (17-1) come from behind here Saturday night to upend Strasburg (13-4).  Trailing throughout the first 3 quarters, Coach Bob Schrock's high-flying Hawks went ahead 51-49 at the start of the final frame and held a 9-point cushion until the Tigers rallied at the end.  Coach Warren Binder's Tigers led 16-15, 36-29 and 49-47 at the quarter stops.  Strasburg jumped out to an 8-2 margin and held that much of a lead most of the first 2 frames.  In the 3rd period, the Hawks employed the press on defense to tie the score 39-all with the 2 teams matching shots until the Tigers went ahead at the close.  Hiland went ahead at the start of the final frame and spurted to a 9-point cushion until 3 minutes were left to be played.  Strasburg outgoaled the hosts, sinking 32 of 61 action shots for 53 percent to 31 of 56 and 56 percent for Hiland.  But, the Hawks canned 10 of 15 free tosses to only 3 of 6 for the Tigers.  Only 17 personals were called, 11 against Strasburg.  Both teams got balanced scoring, Art Mullet, Norman Feller and Joel Menuez topping Hiland with 24, 22 and 10 respectively and John Peters, Adrian Edie, Don Wallick and Vic Gessner getting 21, 17, 14 and 12 respectively for Strasburg.  Strasburg's winning streak ended at 4.  The Strasburg Tigers (17-1) had an outstanding year as they edged the Hiland Reserves 36-34.
