63 - Tusky Valley Noses Out Stone Creek 66-57 (1-11-63)




STONE CREEK - A fast spurt in the final quarter carried Tuscarawas Valley (2-2) (5-6) to its hard-earned victory over Stone Creek (1-4) (4-10).  With both teams playing hot and cold ball at various intervals, Stone Creek took an 11-9 lead at the first stop before the score was knotted 29-all and 44-all at the next 2 rests.  Then in the final frame, the Trojans' 6-5 center Gary Ferren got loose for 3 buckets to give Coach Bob Heller's club the win.  Ferren ended with 18 points for the night, but had to take a back seat to teammate Paul Shipbaugh who had 22, most of them coming on fine outside shots.  Ed Crawford added 12 to the cause.  Jim Billman paced Coach Ken Lawhun's Panthers with 21 markers, Cliff Endlich added 10.  Tuscarawas Valley onnected on 27 of 67 action attempts for 40 percent and made 12 of 18 free throws.  Stone Creek had the same number of shots from the floor, but drilled home just 17 for 25.3 percent.  The Panthers made 23 of 36 from the charity lines.  Stone Creek won the Junior High game over Tusky Valley 21-19, while the Stone Creek Reserves (10-2) got by the Tusky Valley Reserves (0-9) 42-25.
