63 - Junior High Playoffs In Bolivar (2-19-63)

BOLIVAR - Tuscarawas Valley (Unknown Record) nipped Garaway (2-6) 33-31 in the initial round of the Bolivar Junior High Basketball Tournament here last night.  Dick Harvey sank 2 foul shots in the last minute of action for the decision.  Garaway led 8-4 at the first stop and 15-13 at intermission, but Tuscarawas Valley went ahead 23-21 after 3 quarters.  Harvey ended as top point-getter for both teams, getting 11.  Dean Mathey added 8 to Tuscarawas Valley's cause.  Richardson and Youngen both had 8 for Garaway. BOLIVAR - Strasburg, Baltic, Stone Creek and Gnadenhutten recorded victories here Saturday in the Bolivar Junior High Basketball Tournament.  Strasburg (7-1) beat Tuscarawas (2-2) 53-20, Baltic (7-1) downed Port Washington (2-6) 35-28, Stone Creek (5-3) nipped Tuscarawas Valley (Unknown Record) 25-21 and Gnadenhutten (8-0) upended Midvale (3-5) 33-27.  Strasburg posted 16-6, 26-10 and 41-16 quarter leads.  Studer led the way with 22 points.  Love topped Tuscarawas with 9.  Baltic was in front 6-2, 18-11 and 25-16 at the rests.  Richardson was high gun with 10 points.  Stephen led Port with 11.  Stone Creek found iself tied 5-all at the first stop, but went ahead 14-9 at the half and led 27-11 after 3 periods.  Bahari was high man with 11 markers.  Harvey topped TV with 7.  Gnadenhutten and Midvale were tied 6-all at the initial rest and the Blue Devils led 14-12 at intermission, but the Indians went ahead 24-21 going into the final frame.  Kohl led the way with 13 tallies.  Jinks got 10.  Carlisle was high for  Midvale with 12.  (Monday, February 11, 1963)

BOLIVAR - Regular league champion Gnadenhutten clashes with Baltic in the finals of the Tuscarawas County League 7th-8th Grade Tournament here on Friday.  The unbeaten league champions, Gnaden (9-0), took the measure of Stone Creek (5-4) 43-25 last night.  Baltic (8-1) gained its berth by besting Strasburg (7-2) 32-30.  Kohl and Jinks led Gnaden with 16 and 14 points respectively.  Weber canned 14 for Stone Creek.  Richardson netted 19 for Baltic.  Yackey had 12 for Strasburg.  (Wednesday, February 13, 1963)

BOLIVAR - Gnadenhutten (10-0) downed Baltic (8-2) 41-32 here Friday for the Championship of the Annual Junior High Tournament.  The Indians led 10-8, 20-17 and 31-25 at the quarter stops.  Jinks and Kohl paced the winning attack with 21 and 14 points respectively.  Richardson had 11 to top Baltic.  (Monday, February 18, 1963)
