WARSAW - Baltic's Dick Gerber has proven to be an adept student. In scoring 53 points last night to help Baltic (2-5) roll to a 101-39 win over Union, the 6-0 Senior erased a former school mark held by none other than Coach Errol Jacobs. The Eagle mentor set the previous mark in 1955 with a 43-point outburst against Midvale. Gerber also set a new Tuscarawas County individual mark, eclipsing the old record of 52 set back in 1929 by Elmer Harris of Mineral City. The hot-shooting Eagle now has 201 points in Baltic's 7 games, an average of 28.7 per contest. Gerber hit on 24 of 32 field goals, mostly from the key, for 75 percent. He also made 5 of 6 foul shots. "Dick deserved everything he got," Jacobs said. "He is a good, steady player, a fine team man and excellent college material. I hope he keeps up the good work. This win sure boosted our morale." Jacobs, disappointed with his team's performance in the first 6 games, altered his lineup somewhat last night, starting 5-9 Freshmen Jeff Schlarb more than one half. The strategy worked, as the Eagles rolled to a 26-7 lead at the 1st stop, were in front 50-14 at intermission and led 75-28 after 3 periods. Dale Stein gave ample support, scoring 20 points. Paul Perrine led the hosts with 8. The Baltic Reserves (1-5) started off the night by cruising to a 29-21 victory over the Union Reserves and picking up their first win of the season.
