63 Garaway In Comeback Win Against Tusky 61-52 (12-18-62)
SUGARCREEK - Garaway's Pirates (1-0) (4-1) battled back all the way here last night and finally wound up on top of Tuscarawas (0-2) (1-3) in a Tuscarawas County League makup contest. Coach Aaron Miller's Broncos held a 16-11 lead at the first stop and increased that to 32-23 at intermission. Coach Joe Richards' Pirates narrowed the deficit to 6 points, 42-36, after 3 periods. Garaway fired back to knot the score 43-all with 7 minutes left in the game and went ahead for keeps. Veteran Don Deetz and Randy Miller led the 4th period uprising as the Pirates outscored the visitors 25 points to 10. Both Detz and Miller pumped in 7 points in the final frame. The Pirates were making their opening appearance in league action. Randy Miller led the victory with 16 points, Deetz had 12, Frank Miller 11 and Fred Smith 10. Bob Romig paced Tusky with 15 markers and Chuck Reichman had 11. High-scoring Fred Burmich was limited to 9. Russ McGlothlin fouled out for the Broncos. Frank Miller was whistled out for the Pirates. The Garaway Reserves (4-1) trounced the Tuscarawas Reserves (1-1) 46-32.
