63 - Dennison Hands Strasburg 1st Loss 62-61 (12-18-62)

DENNISON - All good things usually come to an end and such was the case for Strasburg High's Tigers (4-1) here last night as they fell to Dennison (4-1) in an overtime tiff.  Strasburg led at all 3 stops and was in front by 12 with 5 minutes left in the game, but a pair of unheralded Railroaders provided the spark to slay the Tiger.  Dennison burned the nets for 21 points in the final regulation frame to tie Strasburg 57-all.  Junior Fred Lecce (5-6) and Sophomore Greg Goodrich (5-4) were the culprits, striking for 5 and 7 points respectively.  Just 19 seconds were left on the clock when Lecce got loose for a "bunny" after Goodrich had stolen the ball at midcourt.  Sophomore Rock Van Fossen put Strasburg ahead 59-57 with a minute gone in overtime.  Dennison's Nick Cummings then made good on the first of a one-and-one situation from the free throw line.  Then at 1:14, high-scoring John Neighbor, who was held in check with 5 points during regulation time, hit on a long set shot from the corner to put Dennison into a 62-59 lead.  A Tiger shot went astray, and Goodrich found Neighbor alone under the hoop for a 62-59 margin.  Strasburg's John Peters then drove in for a layup with 10 seconds to close the gap to one point.  Jim Povick missed an opportunity to increase Dennison's lead from the charity stripe, but Adrian  Edie's shot from the corner as the buzzer sounded was too long.  Peters led Strasburg and took game honors with 23 points, Rock Van Fossen had 13.  High-scoring Edie was limited to 9.  Lecce paced Dennison with 18, Cummings had 15 and Goodrich 11.  The Strasburg Reserves (4-1) took it to the Dennison Reserves with a 43-28 victory earlier in the night.
