63 - Gnaden Cobbers West Lafayette 70-55 For 1st Win (12-1-62)

GNADENHUTTEN - In one of the "foul shootingest" games of the season, the Gnadenhutten Indians (1-3) emerged with their first victory here Saturday with a rout of West Lafayette.  No less than 68 personal fouls were whistled in the roughshod tilt, 36 against the hosts who racked up almost half their points at the charity stripe.  Hitting 34 of 48 free throws for 70 percent, the Indians of Coach Oren Thompson led all the way in snapping their famine.  The Generals potted 23 of 46 free throws.  Thompson, who opened his coaching career at Gnaden this season with only one letterman in the fold, got stellar performances from underclassmen in the victory.  Larry Rentsch and Terry Huebner shared scoring honors with 15 points.  Gene Bates added 12.  The lone returning vet Bruce Kohl, was held without a field goal for only the second time in his varsity career.  He sat out most of the second half.  Hoffman led the Generals with 15 markers.  The Tribe enjoyed a top evening from the field as well, hitting 41 percent of its shots, making 18 of 43.  Lafayette potted only 16 of 60 action attempts for 26 percent.  Rentsch led both teams with 17 rebounds.  The West Lafayette Reserves started the night off with a 38-22 victory over the Gnadenhutten Reserves (2-2).
