63 - Down The Line With Dan Kopp (1-15-63)

DOVER - It's time for a big pat on the back from yours truly.  We just can't help but brag a little about the way a pre-season prediction  is  coming true.  Way back then, with practice just a few days old, we said Strasburg probably would be the team to watch for county basketball honors.  A check of the records backs us up.  Strasburg now stands at 8-1.  Midvale is the first county team to win 10 engagements.  The Blue Devils have lost but 3.  Holding the dubious distinction of losing the most games are Stone Creek and Gnadenhutten, both falling 10 times.  We thought we would vary somewhat from our normal procedure in listing the county scoring leaders.  Instead of having the high per game average on top, we are going to put total number of points in front.  We have listed all countians with 100 or more markers in Class "A."  As you'll find, Dean DeMattio of Midvale continues to pace all scorers with 334 total points and in per game average with 25.69.  DeMattio also leads both categories in the county league with 117 and 29.25.  Gnadenhutten, although sporting only a 4-10 mark, is the top offensive team in the county with 800 points.  But the Tribe also has yielded the most markers, 957.  In the county league, Strasburg leads the way with a 4-0 mark.  Midvale has tallied the most points (323), while Gnadenhutten has given up the most (377).
