Baltic Get's 1st Win At Malvern 49-37 (12-5-64)
MALVERN - Great second-half rebounding by Keith Miller enabled Baltic (1-3) to end a 24-game victory famine here Saturday at the expense of Malvern. Malvern forged into a 23-18 halftime lead after Baltic went in front 14-9 in the 1st frame. After 3 periods it was the Eagles on top 29-28. Miller, 6-3 Senior, snared 14 rebounds all told, pulling down 9 in the final 2 quarters. Teammate Jeff Schlarb grabbed 7. Schlarb took scoring honors for Baltic with 12 points, Miller got 11. Gus Regula, Ron Maurer and Tim Richardson all added 8 and Bob Hummel popped in 4. Baltic hit on 39.8 percent of its field shots and 15 of 24 charities. Malvern sank 38.3 percent from the floor and 12 of 29 fouls. The Eagles, under the first-year guidance of Rich Polcsyaski, hadn't won since February 1, 1963, when it beat Garaway 63-54 under the tutorship of Errol Jacobs, now coach at Conotton Valley. Baltic will host Port Washington Friday and greet Warsaw Saturday. There was no mention of a Reserve game.
