65 - Midvale Downs Tuscarawas 87-58 (11-27-64)

Tuscarawas High School (Broncos) Senior Rich Eckhardt (17 Points)

TUSCARAWAS - The fabulous "Double D," otherwise known as Dean DeMattio, is gone, but Midvale (1-0) apparently will again be a team to reckon with this basketball season.  Pete Hilliard's crew served this notice to its opponents here last night when it racked up a surprisingly easy victory over what is expected to be a formidable Tuscarawas (0-1) quintet.  Four Blue Devils reached double figures, led by the hot hands of Ted Tolloti who put 22 points through the nets.  Terry Leggett added 19, Dan Kohler got 13 and Harvey Byers mustered 11.  Rich Eckhardt paced the Charles Etling-coached Broncos, meshing 17 tallies.  McWilliams potted 13 and  Russ McGlothlin 12.  Midvale appeared to get stronger as the aggressive, fast-game progressed.  It led 21-13, 48-26 and 67-47 at the rests.  There were 56 personals called, 35 against the Broncos.  The Blue Devils sank 31 of 42 charity tosses to 19 of 30 for Tuscarawas.  Dan Kohler, Bob Carlisle and Charles DeMattio were the chief reasons Midvale dominated board play.  Midvale will visit Stgrasburg tonight in hopes of ending the Tigers' 23-game home court winning streak.  Tuscarawas hosts Dover St. Joseph's December 4.  No mention of a Reserve game.
