65 - Midvale Survives Personal Foul Night With Tusky 88-70 (1-29-65)

Tuscarawas High School (Broncos) Senior - Rich Eckhardt (20-Points)

MIDVALE - Like man, when the Midvale Blue Devils (6-1) (15-1) and Tuscarawas Broncos (1-5) (5-9) collided here last night, it made rock 'n roll look like a dark ages ritual.  Between the varsity and reserve contest a total of 111 personal fouls were whistled.  And the varsity tilt was varsity all the way.  It won the fiasco of the fouls with 59.  Midvale counted 28 and Tuscarawas 31.  All told, 8 players departed the feature attraction in the 4th quarter via the 5-foul route, 3 from Midvale and 5 from Tuscarawas.  Both coaches, Pete Hilliard of the Blue Devils and Charles Etling of the Broncos, thought it was some kind of a record, the kind neither desire to claim.  Suffice to say, both indicated they were pretty perturbed about the entire business.  The lone reward for this kind of game is foul shooting practice.  And Midvale, usually tough in this department needs it.  It cashed only 21 of 68 charity tosses for sub-par 31 percent.  Tuscarawas was 26 for 42 for 52 percent.  The personals detracted from a game that had promise of being close.  Midvale led only 32-22 at the conclusion  of the 1st stanza, before rocking the Broncos back on their heels by racing to a 55-35 halftime lead.  Dan Kohler set the scoring pace for the victors, firing in 30 points.  Terry Leggett was right behind with 25.  Four Broncos were in  double figures, Rich Eckhardt counting 20, Russ McGlothlin and Dave Paisley 16 apiece and Ray McWilliams 10.  From the field, Midvale harvested 29 of 65 for 45 percent.  Tuscarawas was 21 of 68 for 31 percent.  Tom Daniels led Midvale in the rebound department with 11.  Leggett grabbed 9 and Kohler 8.  Tops for Tuscarawas was McGlothlin with 16.  McWilliams had 6.  The Midvale Reserves (8-5) dominated the Tuscarawas Reserves (4-5) 55-32.
