PORT WASHINGTON - Dr. E. P. Lynn, professor of education at Ohio University, will address the 31 Port Washington High graduates Wednesday at 8PM in the school. His topic will be "Dollars and Sense." A graduate of Coe College, Dr. Lynn received his master's and doctorate degrees from Iowa State University. He has been on the OU's staff since 1950. The father of 4 children, he also is president of Kootaga Area Boy Scout Council and a past president of the Athens Rotary Club. Baccalaureate services for the class are slated Sunday at 8PM in the school gym. Rev. Glenn H. Rettig of St. Paul's United Church of Christ will deliver the address, "Creative Spirit At Work." Rev. Drabert of the Moravian Church will give the invocation and benediction. Steven Bender, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bender of Port Washington and Nola Simmerman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Simmerman of RD 1. Newcomerstown, have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively.
Bender, who has maintained a 3.92 average during his 4 years of high school, has been active in the band, chorus, basketball, baseball and track. He received 2 superior ratings in the Science Fair and was inducted into the National Honor Society in 1962. He placed 6th in the county in the General Senior Scholarship Test this year, as well as serving as class president, president of the student body and editor of the yearbook. Last summer Bender was awarded a 6-week study in chemistry at Hiram College by the National Foundation Summer Institute. He has received a scholarship to Akron University where he plans to enter this fall.
Miss Simmerman has maintained a scholastic average of 3.72 as well as being active in chorus, debate, library, scholarship, 4-H and the newspaper staff. A member of the National Honor Society, she has been active in Future Homemakers of America, served as co-ed correspondent earning a junior homemaker degree and attended the state FHA convention this year. She plans to enroll in IBM school this fall.
Other class officers are: Kenneth Gay, vice president; James Bates, secretary; Gene Peeper, treasurer and Burris Gardner, student council representative.
